Alpha Solway partners with Golborne High to give local pupils advice and support with their careers
15th December 2021

Leading PPE manufacturer Alpha Solway has joined forces with a Wigan school to help kick-start pupils' prospective careers.

The partnership between Golborne High School and local manufacturer Alpha Solway, part of Globus Group, specialists in technology innovation and workplace protection solutions, will see young people supported with key tools and advice for their professional futures.

The project is the latest in a number of community initiatives Globus Group has progressed over the last few months as part of its commitment to the long-term welfare of future generations and creating a sustainable workforce.

As part of the project with Golborne High, Alpha Solway representatives were invited to provide two days of fun, engaging workshops. Here, 150 young people were provided with insight on future career skills and professional life.

In the past 18 months, Globus Group has employed hundreds of people across the region following the launch of its manufacturing facility in Golborne to support its strategy to produce 75% of products in Europe, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of this, the business has taking on dozens of new apprentices at the site to provide young people with the opportunity to train on the job for careers in industry.

Mike Daniels, Production Manager at Alpha Solway, said:

"Our aim for the partnership is to help young people obtain the essential life skills which will set them up for future careers. This partnership enables pupils to build their confidence and gain quality professional knowledge by offering them a taste of life after school.

"It's been wonderful to meet so many engaged pupils at Golborne High and alongside our commitment to helping communities recover following the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, we look forward to expanding the scheme next year."

Ruth Hugill, Assistant Headteacher at Golborne High said:

"We are delighted to have developed strong links with Alpha Solway. It is important for our students to understand the local and global aspects of the 'World of Work' as part of our aspirational career programme. The engagement between our school and Globus will strengthen students' knowledge, skills and understanding of the qualities employers are seeking in young adults.

"We look forward to teaming up with our colleagues at Alpha Solway again soon and working together to ensure our students develop their life readiness through quality encounters with our industrial and business partners."
