Alpha Solway teams up with local football clubs to give kids a kick start this summer
7th May 2021

Alpha Solway has partnered with Queen of the South FC and Annan Athletic FC to provide sporting equipment for schools.

Leading Scottish PPE firm Alpha Solway has teamed up with Queen of the South FC and Annan Athletic FC to deliver over 600 footballs this month to 24 schools across Annan and Dumfries.

The South of Scotland-based company, part of Globus Group, has launched the new scheme to help provide children with essential sporting equipment to support health and wellbeing in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the scheme, Alpha Solway, which has existing sponsor partnerships with both Queen of the South and Annan Athletic, will give away footballs to thousands of youngsters as part of the firm’s continued community engagement.

Alpha Solway recently announced the launch of two new manufacturing facilities this year in both Dumfries and Annan, creating more than 300 new jobs across the region. The firm committed to 75% UK manufacturing last year amid the disruption to the global PPE supply chain caused by Coronavirus.

**Kevin Proudfoot, Head of Production at Alpha Solway and former football player at both Queen of the South and Annan Athletic, said:** “As a major employer in the area, we know it is important to play an active part in the communities in which we work and live. I’m passionate about this initiative as I know just how much one simple gesture, such as the gift of a football, can change a child’s life.

“We are delighted to collaborate once again with Queen of the South and Annan Athletic to support this fantastic initiative supplying footballs to each of the Primary Schools in Annan and the Dumfries burgh. The scheme will play an important role in helping local children to stay active, supporting their health and well-being after a challenging year.”

“Our roots within the region have enabled us to play a positive role within the community, working with schools and charities to build trusted local links. This is more crucial than ever as we continue to expand the business in both Annan and Dumfries.”

Dan Armstrong, Commercial Manager at Queen of the South, continued: “At Queen of the South and Queen of the South Community Trust we aim to use football to drive participation in sport, improving the lives of people right here in Dumfries.

This project and partnership work with Alpha Solway demonstrates exactly that, giving schools the opportunity to have equipment in order to give children the best possible chance at succeeding and having equal opportunity to excel. It is a great project and shows how working alongside partners with a shared goal of improving the community we all live is beneficial to everyone and will make a huge difference to the schools in the region.

As always, we aspire to engage, empower and evolve everyone we work with and look forward to more partnership work with Alpha Solway in the future”

Chairman of Annan Athletic Philp Jones added: “Annan Athletic and Alpha Solway continue to work together to try and inspire active lives for all. The provision of the footballs to the primary schools in the area is a welcome boost to them as schools continue to struggle to juggle funds in these difficult times. The footballs will allow each child in a session to have their own all and as such allows more activities to take place and more interaction. Our partnership with alpha Solway continues to grow and this is another great example of how simple things can make a significant difference”
