Globus Group celebrates the first Made in UK Day
9th March 2021

Leading PPE firm Globus Group today (9/3) underlines its commitment to British manufacturing by celebrating the first ever 'Made in UK Day'.

The company is stepping up a national recruitment drive, creating 1,000 jobs across all UK facilities by the end of 2021.

More than 75 roles have been made permanent in just the last week across its sites in North West England and the South of Scotland.

With the debut of Made in UK Day, Globus, which has a 25-year heritage in PPE, has reaffirmed its ongoing large-scale recruitment drive after the recent pandemic accelerated its plans to make 75% of its PPE products here in the UK.

As the largest British-based manufacturer of PPE and worker safety solutions, Globus Group, headquartered in Manchester, is completely aligned with all Made in UK ambitions.

Helen Dawson, Head of People at Globus Group, said: "We're passionate about celebrating all things made in the UK and continuing to develop and champion UK manufacturing.

"There is a real appetite for Made in the UK PPE products as customers recognise this as a strong indicator of performance quality, secure supply and excellent value. Made in UK is a brilliant way of celebrating all that's great about British manufacturing.

The company began its large-scale recruitment following winning major contracts with the Department for Health and Social Care and NHS Scotland to make high-performance FFP3 face masks for NHS professionals in England and Scotland.

This resulted in Alpha Solway, part of the Globus Group, significantly scaling up UK production and opening two new manufacturing facilities in the UK to help strengthen the resilient supply chain of PPE.

As a result, dozens of workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic have been employed by Globus Group to help accelerate the PPE drive. Globus's Made in UK commitment has given a boost to local economies providing regional career opportunities and supporting local supply chain businesses.

The Group has also launched an essential apprenticeship scheme to enable young people to train on the job for careers in manufacturing industry as they help to provide a long-term, sustainable, ongoing supply of PPE to NHS professionals, and other key industry workers across the UK.

Helen added: Unprecedented demand for PPE since the start of the pandemic, has really accelerated our UK-production. We want to continue growing our UK-based manufacturing and we believe that in creating skilled, sustainable, durable jobs, we can go a long way in supporting local communities and really make a difference."
