EN 136 is the standard for full-face respiratory protective masks. The standard sets the minimum requirements for full-face masks, and EN 136-certified masks are divided into three classes, with a Class 3 rating representing the highest level of protection.

Class 1

Full-face respiratory protective masks that are rated class 1 are for light-duty work and low maintenance. These masks provide enough protection for low-danger environments and are often disposable or designed for infrequent use.

Class 2

Class 2 facemasks are designed for general duty work and include maintainable parts. These provide a higher level of protection than Class 1, and the parts are designed so they can be replaced, repaired, or cleaned. Class 2 masks are suitable for everyday use and during longer periods. 

Class 3 

Class 3 is the highest specification level of EN 136. This certification is for masks designed for heavy use, often roles such as firefighters. Class 3 masks and filters carry the most protection, durability, and maintenance ability of all face masks.
