3rd November 2023

In a nod to the NHS's 75th anniversary, Globus proudly supported the annual Scottish Health Awards, acknowledging the unwavering commitment and exceptional service provided by healthcare professionals across NHS Scotland and its partners.

Organised by the Daily Record in collaboration with NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government, the Scottish Health Awards stand as the epitome of recognition for those who tirelessly deliver health and social care services to the people of Scotland.

People’s Choice 75th Anniversary Award – Sponsored by Alpha Solway

Highlighting the significance of the NHS's milestone anniversary, the People's Choice 75th Anniversary Award, sponsored by Alpha Solway, specifically honoured individuals who have dedicated a substantial part of their careers to the NHS, making impactful contributions along the way. The finalists, including paramedics, nurses, pharmacists, and more, showcased exceptional dedication in caring for their patients and upholding the values of the NHS.

A huge congratulations to all the nominees for making a significant contribution to improving the care and well-being of others.

People’s Choice Award Winner: Alan McMillan

Taking home the prestigious People's Choice Award was Alan McMillan, a paramedic with a career spanning back to the establishment of the Scottish Ambulance Service in 1992. Alan's journey, from an ambulance care assistant in 1985 to a lead ambulance man in 1990, culminated in his role as a paramedic when the profession was introduced in Scotland two years later. In addition to his frontline duties, Alan served as an instructor and an Advanced Life Support Instructor, assuming the role of Paramedic Team Leader.

Reflecting on his nomination, Alan stated, "I'm surprised to be nominated for an award as there are thousands of us going about doing this job every day. It's always nice when people say thank you."

Despite his retirement later this year, Alan plans to continue contributing part-time as a paramedic.
